Best Digital Account Opening Software for Community Banks (2026)

Disclosure: RAVEN, which publishes this guide, is one of the vendors below. Every "best software" list in this category is written by a vendor; at least this one says so in the second sentence and tells you when a competitor is the better buy.

The benchmark numbers in this market are public and brutal. MANTL, the category's best-known platform, reports an average under five minutes to open a retail deposit account across online and in-branch channels. Megabank and neobank onboarding set borrower expectations, and an application that takes twenty minutes and ends with "visit a branch to fund your account" loses most of its applicants before the finish line. Meanwhile the banks that moved fast without verification learned the other lesson: an account-opening flow that accepts whatever the applicant types is a fraud vector, and more than one bank has turned online account opening off entirely after a fraud wave.

So the honest selection criteria are speed to funded account, fraud controls at the front door, core compatibility, implementation weight, and what it costs at your asset size. Here is how the field actually breaks down.

The dedicated platforms

MANTL (now part of Alkami)

MANTL built its reputation on deposit origination for community banks and credit unions and was acquired by Alkami in March 2025. Its numbers are the category benchmark: in June 2026 Alkami reported that MANTL customers have raised more than $40 billion in deposits on the platform, with an average under five minutes to open a retail account and about ten minutes for a business account, across channels. The branch is now its fastest-growing channel; more than a million in-branch applications have been booked through MANTL. It is a strong choice for deposit-growth-driven banks that want a proven engine and are comfortable buying from a larger digital-banking company post-acquisition. Pricing is not published.

Narmi

Narmi sells digital banking and consumer and business account opening built specifically for community banks and credit unions. Its case studies name real community institutions with real numbers, which is rarer in this market than it should be. Narmi fits banks that want a modern digital banking front end and account opening from one vendor. Most pricing is not published.

Apiture

Apiture provides digital banking with account opening for US banks and credit unions. It used to be the shortlist entry for institutions that wanted a full digital banking suite from a vendor that was not a core provider; that changed when CSI completed its acquisition of Apiture in October 2025. For CSI core banks it is now close to a core-attached option. For banks on other cores, ask how the roadmap and integration priorities have changed under a core owner.

The core-attached options

If you run a Jack Henry, Fiserv, or CSI core, each will sell you account opening that is already integrated: Banno for Jack Henry shops, Fiserv's digital origination products, and CSI's account opening, which now includes Apiture. The integration is the point; the tradeoff is that your account-opening roadmap moves at the core vendor's pace, and switching cores later means switching this too. See our notes on Jack Henry, Fiserv, and CSI for how third-party tools coexist with each.

Candescent

Candescent (the former NCR Voyix digital banking business) serves more than 1,300 banks and credit unions and partners with fintech vendors for capabilities like direct deposit switching. It launched a rebuilt mobile experience, Votiv, in April 2026. Banks already on Candescent digital banking typically evaluate its native flows first.

nCino

nCino is the heavyweight option: onboarding and origination on a Salesforce foundation, strongest in commercial and business banking. For a community bank whose pain is consumer deposit account opening, it is usually more platform than the problem requires.

The verification-first option

RAVEN

RAVEN, our product, approaches the same problem from the fraud end. The flow verifies at the source as the applicant moves through it: identity and synthetic-identity screening against authoritative records, watchlist checks, bank-account verification by direct connection rather than a typed routing number, and income or employment data when the account or the relationship calls for it. The output is a funded, verified account and an examiner-ready record of what was checked and where every data point came from.

Where it fits: banks that turned digital account opening off after fraud losses, banks opening it for the first time and unwilling to accept typed-and-unverified intake, and de novo banks building a day-one stack. It layers on your existing core and LOS rather than replacing your digital banking. Where it does not fit: if you want one vendor for your entire digital banking experience, buy one of the platforms above; RAVEN is the verification-first intake layer, not a mobile banking suite. How to run the evaluation

  • Time yourself. Open an account at your own bank on your phone, stopwatch running, and then do the same at a neobank. The gap is your requirement document.
  • Ask every vendor the fraud question first. What is checked at the source before an account can be funded: identity, SSN issuance, funding account ownership? "We integrate with a fraud tool" is a different answer than "these checks run on every application."
  • Count the implementation. Core-attached options integrate fastest; dedicated platforms bring more capability and more project; a verification layer in front of intake is the smallest lift but is not a full digital banking replacement.
  • Get funding-rate numbers, not application numbers. Applications started is a vanity metric. Ask references for funded-account rate and first-30-day deposit balances.

FAQ

How fast should digital account opening be in 2026? Under five minutes for a retail account is the competitive benchmark: MANTL reports an average under five minutes across online and in-branch channels, and about ten minutes for business accounts. If your flow takes twenty minutes or ends with a branch visit to fund, that is the gap to close.

Why do community banks turn off online account opening? Fraud, almost always: flows that accepted typed, unverified data at internet speed attracted first-party fraud, synthetic identities, and new account fraud faster than back offices could review it. The fix is verification at the source, not abandoning the channel.

Do I have to replace my core to offer digital account opening? No. Every option in this guide, including the core vendors' own products, runs alongside an existing core. The real variable is how much of your digital front end you want to replace at the same time.
